Scientists have discovered there are 27 different
forms of lignans, technically phytonutrients, derived from flax and they all
work together for incredible healing results. When ingested on a regular basis
studies have confirmed, lignans from flax seed hold anti-tumor, antioxidant,
anti-inflammatory, anti-oestrogenic, immune boosting, and cholesterol mediating properties. Lignans from flax have been shown to reduced breast, prostate, lung, and
colorectal cancer loads by killing cancer cells and slowing cancer’s growth;
reduce prostate PSA and prevent BPH; reduce C-reactive protein concentrations;
assist in lowering blood pressure; suppress atherosclerosis; improve heart
health; and protect healthy cells against DNA damage and lipid peroxidation.
In a study by Duke University Medical Research
Center they found lignans effective at halting prostate tumor growth. To back
this up, there have been multiple reports of men dropping their PSA by 40% or
more with only short-term use of lignans. One man with prostate metastases
throughout his body reportedly was able to drop his PSA from a high of 94.7 to
26.3 with lignans and proper diet. Then there is a Canada study where women
eating flaxseed muffins daily reduced breast cancer cell growth by 34.2%,
killed their cancer cells by 31%; and decreased expression of their cancer
growth receptor Her2 by 71% after
only one month. In another Canadian study it was determined lignan intake
reduced colorectal cancer risk while killing tumor cells.
And in a 2008 randomized controlled trial looking at the effects of flaxseed
supplementation on men scheduled for a prostatectomy, the men on flaxseed
received excellent results.. For 30 days one group was feed 30 grams per day of
ground flaxseed. Their conclusion from the trial was that flaxseed was safe and
cancer proliferation rates were lower for men using the flaxseed
supplementation. Now remember
these results were obtained from ground flaxseed and not the more potent and
effective form of flax husk lignans.
The principal lignan precursor found within flax
hulls is secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) that is converted by intestinal
bacteria into two mammalian lignans called enterolactone (EL) and enterodiol
(ED). Together these bring incredible ORAC values (the measure of a food’s
antioxidant ability) to fight cancer with a value of 19,600 per 100 grams
compared to say kale at 1,770 per hundred grams. Flax hull lignans are also
considered the richest source of natural phytoestrogens and have been
recognized by the National Cancer Institute for their ability to prevent
cancer. As with any supplemental product, you will want to discuss flax hull
lignan use, interactions, and dosage with an informed doctor. The majorities of
people experience no side effects with flax hull lignan supplementation but
potential allergic reactions; changes in hormones; decreased clotting; possible
constipation; and changes in medications are all things to consider.
Should you decide to explore flax hull lignans as
an option, quality product is available online. Just make sure it has been
developed through the MCP process, is Non-GMO, and without added chemicals.

With the abundant cancer fighting, overall health, and preventative benefits
already discovered from years
of research regarding flax hull lignans, they are definitely one of the many
nature-based, low side effect treatments we should add to our list for clinical
trials both as a stand alone treatment and in combination with other products
and medications.
